Dear Neighbor,
Welcome to my first e-newsletter! I am truly humbled to have the opportunity to represent the families of the 48th House District and I look forward to providing you with updates on what is happening in Lansing and throughout our community.
I was sworn in officially this week for the 2019-2020 legislative session and I have begun laying the groundwork on my top legislative priorities. Joining me in the office are staff members Nicole Derusha-Mackey and Hannah Smith, both of whom previously worked with former state Rep. Pam Faris.
I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Nicole and Hannah in serving the people of the 48th District and our state and I’m also extremely proud of the tremendous talent they bring to our all-female office.
The time has come for us to work together to address the mounting challenges facing the people of our state. I am committed to providing more opportunities for skills training, as well as ensuring every child in our state receives the world-class education they deserve. This new session presents us with a fresh chance to provide a better quality of life for all Michiganders.
Before joining the Legislature, I spent 30 years in the field of public education, working to empower youth as a local teacher for my first 22 years. After receiving my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Administration in 2011, I became a school administrator, most recently serving as principal in Walled Lake Consolidated School District since 2013. I continue to work in education as a lecturer at the University of Michigan.
The best way for me to advocate your interests and fight for the things that matter most to you is for us to stay in contact. Please don’t hesitate to call, send an email or simply stop by to meet me and my staff. We are ready to get to work!

Sincerely,
Sheryl Kennedy, Ph.D.
