LANSING — State Rep. Padma Kuppa (D-Troy) was named an assistant Democratic whip today for the 2019-2020 legislative term. Kuppa is serving her first term representing the 41st House District.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to serve my community members and the people of Michigan, and I am ready to hit the ground running to ensure that our state’s budget and policies reflect our priorities,” said Rep. Kuppa. “I look forward to partnering with my colleagues from across the state to secure a better future for our children by adequately funding their education and our infrastructure, and protecting our environment from future catastrophe.”
As assistant Democratic whip, Rep. Kuppa will be working directly with Democratic Whip Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) to build support for House Democrats’ legislative priorities during the 2019-20 session. Rep. Kuppa came to the U.S. from India at the age of four and grew up in America before returning to India as a teenager to earn her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the National Institute of Technology Warangal. Rep. Kuppa moved to the 41st House District more than 20 years ago, working as an engineer and project manager in a career spanning the automotive, financial and IT industries. Rep. Kuppa is the first Indian immigrant and Hindu to serve in Michigan’s state Legislature.
