LANSING — An appropriations bill including funding for the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) passed the House today, allocating funds for a number of capital outlay projects, including two in Clinton Charter Township. House Bill 4244 will, among other projects, help pay for the George George Park and the Clinton River Spillway Park land acquisitions.
“This is an exciting development for the people of Clinton Township,” said state Rep. Bill Sowerby (D-Clinton Township). “Having open spaces like public parks where people can gather is an important part of every healthy community, and this funding will go a long way toward ensuring these two important projects are completed.”
Of the $26 million appropriated restricted funds, the George George Park project would receive $250,000 for the acquisition of a 0.29 acre residential property currently surrounded by existing township park land. The property would be utilized for public recreation activities for the George George and Woodrow Woody Parks. The Clinton River Spillway project would receive $378,000 for the acquisition of 6.3 acres of vacant land along the Clinton River Spillway. The Township plans to use the land for public recreation purposes consistent with goals outlined in the Township Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
HB 4244 will now move to the Senate for consideration.
