Manoogian Named Assistant Democratic Whip
LANSING — Today, state Rep. Mari Manoogian (D-Birmingham) was named an assistant Democratic whip for Michigan’s 100th Legislature. Manoogian is serving her first term representing the 40th House District.
“I am honored to be chosen for this opportunity and am excited to get started,” Manoogian said. “The people of Michigan made it clear which issues are important to them; fixing our roads, improving our schools, taking on high prescription drug costs and protecting our environment. I look forward to serving the residents of my district and all Michiganders by working collaboratively and creatively on legislation that tackles these critical issues.”
As assistant Democratic whip, Manoogian will be working directly with Democratic Whip Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) to build support for House Democrats’ legislative priorities during the 2019-20 session. At 26, Manoogian is the youngest woman serving in the 100th Legislature and the first Armenian-American woman to serve in the Michigan House of Representatives. Before joining the Legislature, she worked as a public servant at the federal level. Manoogian earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University.
