LANSING — The House Committee on Local Government voted unanimously to pass House Bill 4573 out of committee today, where it now awaits a vote on the House floor. HB 4573 would allow townships to adopt an ordinance to allow for the creation of a special assessment district for mosquito abatement. In response, state Rep. Tim Sneller (D-Burton), the bill’s sponsor, issued the following statement:

“I am extremely grateful that my colleagues understood the importance of my bill and passed it out of committee this afternoon. When I was elected as a state representative, I vowed to go to Lansing and put forward legislation that would make a real difference in the everyday lives of Genesee County residents. This legislation fills a gap in the law that would allow townships, like Mundy Township, to afford important public services like mosquito abatement. I hope to see this critical, common-sense bill come to a vote on the House floor soon.”
