LANSING, Mich., Dec. 15, 2025 — House Republicans yanked back more than $644 million in previously authorized FY 2025 work project funding, including over $351 million in state General Fund dollars, from programs that directly affect communities across Michigan. Among the cuts, $1.8 million is being stripped from firearm safety and violence prevention, along with hundreds of millions in infrastructure and community development funds.

In response to the Republican cuts, state Rep. Julie Brixie (D-Meridian Twp.) released the following statement:

“For all the Republican talk of cutting ‘waste, fraud and abuse’, cutting funds from projects that are half-built or still underway is the definition of waste. Instead of saving us from waste, Republicans have created it, harming millions of Michiganders in the process.

“The funds they are cutting are used to support our kids, new mothers, veterans, seniors and our educators. Ripping these funds away from communities and families is a blatant abuse of power and it betrays the trust of the people we were elected to serve. I am beyond disappointed at their actions, and I will be doing everything in my power to make sure this critical funding is restored.”
