Community Conversation
Last month, I hosted an event featuring special guests Oakland County Water Commissioner Jim Nash and Berkley Mayor Bridget Dean. Together we discussed municipal lead service line replacement and the impacts of unfunded mandates on city budgets. It was great to hear from so many of you about your concern for public health. Thank you to everyone who came out!
This month, my office will host a Know Your Rights town hall event on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 5:30 p.m. at the Huntington Woods Public Library, located at 26415 Scotia Road. This event will feature special guests who are 1st amendment and immigration experts. Together we will talk about your rights as a citizen in relation to government agencies like ICE.
It is recommended that guests submit their questions in advance using this form. We look forward to meeting with you all and discussing the work our offices are doing to support you.

Knocking On Your Doors
During the warm season, my team and I connected with thousands of residents across our district, engaging in meaningful conversations about our work in Lansing and the issues that matter most to you. These discussions covered a wide range of topics, from noise concerns on Woodward to education and the housing crisis.

The MI House Democrats Vision Project
We have concluded the survey portion of the MI House Democrats Vision Project! We will now begin the process of incorporating your feedback into our legislative agenda for when House Democrats retake the gavel. In a time when people often feel disconnected from the work of government, it is critical that public servants at all levels remain accountable to their electorate. If you have any questions about how your feedback will be used, please feel free to reach out to my office!
Legislation
January marks the beginning of budget season for our state. On Jan. 16 we received an update on how much money our state will have to work with for FY 2027. We will shortly begin negotiating a budget that aims to serve all Michiganders. Your input is invaluable during this period!
Here are a few important pieces of legislation I’ve been championing this month to create real change for our communities:
- HB 4760: Banning the use of masks by law enforcement operating in Michigan
- HB 4859: Banning warrantless ICE operations at sensitive locations like schools, hospitals, churches, courts, funerals, etc.

EGLE is trying to make Michiganders aware of the risks of radon. You can perform an at home test today and get some peace of mind for yourself and your family!
Literacy Efforts, Higher Graduation Rates Celebrated
We are celebrating progress for our state’s schools, including numerous efforts that have allowed more people to pursue teaching, implementing historic literacy and dyslexia laws, continuing to support free meals for all students, higher graduation rates and increased participation and success in Career and Technical Education and Advanced Placement programs.
