State of Emergency Declared, Flooding Resources

As many of you may know, Gov. Whitmer recently declared a state of emergency in response to the major flooding that has affected thousands of Wayne County residents. With this declaration, the governor has made available state resources to supplement local response and recovery efforts. If you have been affected by the flooding, below are resources from the Department of Insurance and Financial Services’ (DIFS) website that you may find helpful when working with insurance companies to file a claim and repair damages. DIFS can help answer questions regarding what an insurer must do and help explain policy language.

Additional information regarding disaster preparedness, as well as how to file a complaint against an insurance company with DIFS, is available on the DIFS website at www.michigan.gov/difs under the “Consumer” link. Resources related to the recent flooding can also be found on the DIFS website under “Disaster Preparedness”.

Please feel free to contact the Office of Consumer Services toll-free at (877) 999-6442 with any questions you may have. If you are having any trouble receiving assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact my office at (517) 373-0823 or email me at TyroneCarter@house.mi.gov.
