Launched Canvass Walk in Charlotte
A few weeks ago we launched a canvass walk in Charlotte. I met many interns from the state House. If you are in college and thinking about an internship, you should apply. Interns have been helping us reach out to our communities to discuss important issues. Thank you to this group for all of your help this summer.

Attended Ribbon Cutting for New Dimondale Elementary
I love watching the excitement of the first day of school. This year, the Dimondale kids have a big extra piece of excitement. I recently attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Dimondale Elementary. Education is one of my top priorities, and our kids are at the top.

Welcome Back to School, Eaton County!
Welcome back to school, Eaton County! As a very shy young person, I remember how nervous I was but also excited to see my friends and learn during my first days of school. I hope everyone has a great, safe school year. I’m excited to see all you accomplish.

Between the Rows Tour held by Michigan Corn
I was a guest for the Between the Rows Tour held by Michigan Corn. It was an added bonus to hear all about the industry’s history and impact at my good friend Gary Parr’s farm along with special guest state Sen. Sarah Anthony.

Michigan corn has a huge impact on our economic success with almost $3 billion in economic impact and nearly $704 million in wages. Thank you, Michigan farmers!

Launched Canvass Walk in Dimondale
Last week, we launched a canvass walk in Dimondale. I walked with a great group of volunteers, including interns who have worked with us all summer reaching out to constituents. We have been all over the district together. and I very much appreciate everyone.

We launched from Danford Park in Dimondale. If you haven’t been, you should stop by. It has beautiful art and is right on the river surrounded by pollinators and a great kayak launch. When you are done, you can also grab something to eat and drink at one of the great restaurants nearby.

Above is a recap of my first six months in the 103rd Legislature representing the people of Eaton County and House District 76 in the Michigan House of Representatives!

My Statement on the Passage of the House FY26 Budget

A quote graphic from Michigan state Representative Angela Witwer that reads "Eaton County's dedicated police force and hospitals work hard every day to keep our community safe and in good health. I've long ensured that Michigan's budget supports their public service, and I will not support the defunding of these family-supporting jobs."

Last week, the House Majority Party passed their budget spending bill, House Bill 4706, which would defund the Michigan State Police by $66 million and cut 300 jobs, weakening local law enforcement departments and public safety. The budget plan would also eliminate over $4 billion from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, cutting funds local hospitals depend on to operate and serve our communities, especially those in rural areas.

After voting no to protect Eaton County’s police force, jobs and access to affordable health care, I issued the following statement:

“Eaton County’s dedicated police force and hospitals work hard every day to keep our community safe and in good health. As former Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, I have long ensured that Michigan’s budget rewards their public service, supports good-paying jobs for our community and increases access to care. I cannot support this budget that defunds our dedicated public safety and health care workers.

“Over the next decade, federal cuts are projected to end health coverage for over 22,000 residents in Eaton County, negatively affecting not just our neighbors, but also our two hospitals that will be forced to absorb those costs which will put them in jeopardy. Michigan’s health care workers, rural hospitals and working families especially cannot afford the further cuts that this budget proposes. Michiganders deserve a budget that supports their safety, their health and their economic opportunity. I urge the House to ensure these priorities for this year’s budget.”
