Dear Neighbor,
In this month’s newsletter, I am happy to share recent events I have participated in throughout the district as well as legislative updates from Lansing. Highlights include attending a press conference with my colleagues to urge the state not to approve the expansion of the Wayne Disposal Landfill, as well as attending the SEIU and MEA’s press conference on the state budget. Our office worked in partnership with a coalition fighting to end the Genocide in Gaza; together, we organized a letter to Congress and hosted a press conference on this crisis.
I hope this newsletter shines a spotlight on my work as your State Representative, as well as a reminder that I am here to fight for the working class.
In Solidarity,
Dylan Wegela
State Representative

MEA / SEIU Press Conference
I was able to attend the joint press conference with the Michigan Education Association and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) this past month. SEIU Michigan is fighting to make sure our budget doesn’t cut Medicaid and puts workers first. The Michigan Education Association and AFT Michigan are demanding that the school budget meets the needs of our districts. We need to invest in public education, not make cuts.

Legislative Updates
Not Your Dumping Ground Press Conference
I joined state Rep. Reggie Miller and state Sen. Darrin Camilleri for a press conference urging the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) to not approve expansion of the Wayne Disposal Landfill. I am proud to stand with them in the fight against this expansion and against the attempt to bring radioactive materials to our communities.

I proudly cosponsored state Rep. Laurie Pohutsky’s bill on protecting state sovereignty. This bill ensures National Guard troops cannot be deployed in Michigan without explicit authorization from the governor or a lawful and constitutionally valid order from the president.
Gaza Resolution
The United States must stop supporting the Israeli government’s genocide. That’s why I worked with my colleagues, state Reps. Erin Byrnes and Alabas Farhat, to organize a letter calling on our government to stop sending aid to Israel. This fall we will be introducing a formal resolution in the Michigan House calling on Congress to stop funding the genocide. You can read more about our letter here.
We organized a press conference on this letter this past month, you can watch more about it here.
Budget
Every day without a budget leaves our education system facing great uncertainty and leaves teachers, parents and students unsure if the resources they rely on will continue to exist. Classrooms cannot run on excuses. While some play political games, I’m fighting for the best budget for the people of Michigan, one that prioritizes students, supports teachers and ensures schools have the funding they need to succeed. Our kids deserve more than empty promises — they deserve a legislature that prioritizes their education and delivers the funding schools need.
We need to deliver a budget for the people of Michigan. Last week, state leaders reached a framework agreement that moves us closer to passing a final budget. And early Wednesday, we passed a continuing resolution to keep the government open and funded until Oct. 8 while we finalize a budget.
