District 3 | Dec. 19,  2025 | Rep. Alabas Farhat

Dear Neighbor,

Welcome to the latest edition of my Capitol and Community Updates e-newsletter. As snow falls and the holiday season approaches, I hope you’ve been able to stay warm and enjoy the holidays with your loved ones. With the year drawing to a close, my colleagues and I are making a final push to tackle key priorities and finish the year strong.

At home in the district, community engagement remains at the heart of our work. We’ve continued hosting regular coffee hours to hear directly from our neighbors, turning local concerns into legislative priorities. I also had the opportunity to present over 40 State of Michigan Tributes celebrating individuals, organizations, and community milestones. Our office has also assisted hundreds of community members with constituent services, from unemployment and housing issues to small business support, ensuring that we remain accessible and responsive.

Back in Lansing, I was able to introduce over 15 pieces of legislation to expand access to health care, increase consumer protections, support economic development, and improve quality of life for individuals and families across the state. I also was able to help advance a state budget that included nearly $2 billion in infrastructure funding, guaranteed free school meals for students and protected Medicaid, ensuring Michigan continues to invest in the necessary resources that keep our communities safe, healthy and moving forward.

If you have questions about state programs or want to share concerns, please reach out by phone at (517) 373-0144 or email me at [email protected].

In service,

Alabas A. Farhat
State Representative
House District 3

🏛️ Legislative Updates

Legislative Snapshot: Pushing the People’s Agenda

This year has been a busy and productive one. In Lansing, I worked with colleagues to help pass a responsible state budget that puts our communities first by investing in public education, health care services, infrastructure, and support for working families.

These investments are aimed at improving everyday life for residents in our communities, ensuring our tax dollars are used to strengthen the services people rely on most. In addition to working closely on the budget, I supported and helped shape legislation focused on public safety, tenant protections, transparent government, and economic opportunity.

This year’s accomplishments reflect the impact we can make when we listen to the concerns voiced within our communities and come together to uplift one another. I remain committed to fighting for policies rooted in fairness, opportunity, and the needs of the people who call this district home.

December is Universal Human Rights Month

Universal Human Rights Month is a reminder that every person, no matter their background, identity or circumstance, is entitled to dignity, freedom and equal opportunity.

The month honors the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 and encourages us to reflect on the protections we often take for granted. It is also a call to action to listen, advocate and stand up for the rights of those whose voices are overlooked. Ultimately, Universal Human Rights Month invites us to imagine and work toward a world where everyone is treated with fairness, respect and compassion.

One of my favorite parts of serving as your state representative is visiting teachers, small-business owners, and others to offer our gratitude for the work they do to support our community daily.

Nominate a Teacher or Business of the Month

Our teachers and business leaders are pillars of the community and deserve recognition for their hard work. If you would like to nominate a teacher and/or business for me to recognize on social media, please fill out the forms below.
