Dear Neighbor, Happy December! This holiday season I am especially reminded of the importance of community, sharing memories with loved ones, and even the occasional warm exchange with a friend we’ve yet to make. I am also reminded of the countless hours of support that our community devotes to coming together for those who struggle most during this season of giving. I would like to express sincere appreciation for everyone who views this season as a time to step up and serve their community in recognition that every person, no matter who they are, deserves to feel a sense of joy and warmth during times like these. As you reflect upon 2025 and look forward to the year ahead, I wanted to share some things which you may find helpful. In service, |

🏡 Hoskins Introduces Bill to Help Seniors and Disabled Homeowners Delay Summer Property Taxes
Last month, I introduced House Bill 5225, a piece of legislation aimed at extending eligibility for Michigan’s summer property tax deferment program. If passed as written, this bill would allow more seniors, disabled residents, veterans, and fixed-income homeowners to delay their summer property tax payments without accruing penalties or interest. Under current law, eligible residents can defer their summer taxes until Feb. 15, but strict income limits have left many struggling homeowners unable to qualify. HB 5225 raises the income threshold to $60,000 starting in 2027 and ties future adjustments to inflation with the goal of keeping pace with household costs. I outlined why I believe these incentives are critical in a statement on my website. |

♨️ Oakland County Warming Centers
Winter temperatures have been dropping rapidly and we’re likely to see more cold bursts as we get further into the winter months, which is why I want to share some information about the warming center locations that are accessible to the community throughout Oakland County if you need help staying warm. As a reminder, these facilities are only open during a severe weather event, and operational facilities will be marked in green when they are open and operational. Most sites are not open 24 hours a day. You can find an operational warming center near you at: oakgov.com/warming-and-cooling-centers. |
