Democratic lawmaker informs local communities in Oakland and Wayne Counties
Press Release
PONTIAC, Mich., Oct. 10, 2025 — State Reps. Brenda Carter (D-Pontiac) and Tonya Myers Phillips (D-Detroit) are partnering to kick off the Boots on the Ground: H.R. 1 Tour, a statewide effort to inform and mobilize Michigan residents around the implications of federal House Resolution 1 (H.R. 1), also known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, and its impact on local communities.
The tour will officially kick off in Pontiac on Monday, Nov. 10, at 5 p.m., followed by stops across Michigan, including in Detroit, Flint, Saginaw, Traverse City, Dearborn, Eastpointe, Grand Rapids and Benton Harbor. Dates and specific locations will be announced soon.
To mark the launch, Carter and Myers Phillips will appear on “Truth to Power” with Darwin Griffin today at 11 a.m. to discuss the purpose of the tour and what H.R. 1 means for Michigan families, workers and voters.
“This is about protecting our democracy and empowering our people,” Carter said. “We’re taking this message directly to the people — not through headlines or sound bites, but in person, in every community.”
“From Detroit to Benton Harbor, our communities deserve to know what’s at stake,” Myers Phillips said. “We’re standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the people we serve to ensure that critical life-saving food and health benefits are not lost.”
The Boots on the Ground: H.R. 1 Tour will include community town halls, voter education sessions and collaborative discussions with civic leaders and grassroots organizations.
