Dear Neighbor,

The start of fall is finally here, and as we welcome a new season, I encourage you to take a look at how September has been wrapping up and what we have on the radar for this upcoming October. The closer we get to the end of the year, the more we need to remind ourselves of what we’ve accomplished so far in 2025, and the work we still have ahead of us to continue supporting our community.

This past month, my office had the opportunity to attend the Dearborn Senior Center’s Senior Health & Information Expo! This event was a great opportunity to hear from our seniors firsthand and provide them with helpful information. My team was able to share resources related to health care, housing, veterans affairs and more. If you are interested in any of these resources but could not attend the expo, please reach out to my office anytime and my team would be happy to get you the information you need!

🏛️ Legislative Updates

Budget Negotiations: Continuing to Push the People’s Agenda
At the top of my legislative priorities is ensuring that we deliver a balanced, bipartisan budget for the people of Michigan. This week, state leaders reached a framework agreement that moves us closer to passing a final budget before the Oct. 1 deadline. It’s a big step in the right direction, but there is still work to be done to prevent a government shutdown and make sure the budget we pass is truly responsible.

The agreement reflects priorities that matter to families across Michigan: strong schools, secure health care, safe neighborhoods and fixing our roads — while also aiming to keep costs down for working people. But until the budget is finalized, I will keep working to ensure it reflects the needs and values of our community.

From our conversations at coffee hours, emails, and phone calls, I know how important it is that Lansing delivers a budget that funds education, protects health care, strengthens public safety, and makes everyday life more affordable. I remain committed to being your voice in these final negotiations and to fighting for a budget that puts people first.

September is National Literacy Month, a time to celebrate the transformative power of reading and writing. Literacy is a fundamental skill that opens doors to education, employment, and civic engagement. It empowers individuals to understand the world around them and to share their own stories.

This month, consider how you can promote literacy in your community. Whether it’s by donating books or volunteering at a local school or library, every effort helps build a more literate and informed society. Let’s make a commitment this month to support literacy in all its forms.
