DETROIT, Mich., Nov. 21, 2025 — Members of the Detroit Caucus reflected on the passing of former state Rep. Fred Durhal Jr., a lifelong public servant and community champion whose decades of leadership helped shape Detroit and uplifted countless families. The Detroit Caucus issued the following statement:

“Fred Durhal Jr. was a pillar in Detroit — someone who fought every single day to make sure our communities were heard, valued and protected. He deeply believed in the power of government to change lives, and he approached every role he held with compassion, humility and an unwavering sense of duty. Fred’s advocacy for working families, his mentorship of young leaders and his devotion to public service have left an imprint on this city that will be felt for generations.
