Detroit Caucus Offers Condolences to Governor Gretchen Whitmer at the Passing of her father Richard Whitmer
DETROIT, Jan. 27, 2026 — Yesterday, Richard Whitmer, the father of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who served as Commerce Secretary under Gov. William Milliken, was CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, passed. After learning of the news, the Detroit Caucus released the following statement:
“Richard Whitmer was a dedicated father and public servant who worked to strengthen Michigan’s economy and institutions. His leadership left a lasting impact on our state, and his commitment to service is reflected in the many lives he touched, starting with those at home. Our thoughts are with Governor Whitmer and her family during this time.”
