Happy New Year, District 10 community!
Welcome to my first e-newsletter of the New Year. I hope you had a healthy and enjoyable holiday season.
As we begin the year, weāre also approaching Martin Luther King Jr. Day next Monday. At a time when many communities are facing real challenges, itās worth reflecting on the strength and moral clarity Dr. King embodied.
In that same spirit of service, (and, personally, moral clarity),Ā the Michigan House returned to session on Jan. 14, marking the first day of the 2026 legislative session as required by the Michigan Constitution, which sets the start of the regular session for the second Wednesday in January at noon.
Just a New Year refresher here:
- Our district.Ā The 10th State House District encompasses ENE Detroit (Yorkshire Woods, Cornerstone Village, East English Village, Morningside, Moross – Morang), all Grosse Pointe cities (except GPW precinct 2), and Harper Woods.
- Our team.Ā Team Paiz office staffers areĀ Constituent Services Director Abby Locke and Legislative/Policy Director James Sklar.
- Committee membership.Ā I am a member of the Agriculture Committee (Minority Vice Chair) and Finance Committee.
- Caucus membership.Ā Iām also a member of the following caucuses: Detroit; Legislative Disability; Progressive Womenās Caucus; Latino Legislative; Firearm Safety and Gun Violence Prevention; Poverty and Homelessness; and Labor.
- National membership.Ā Iām a member of the international Great Lakes – St. Lawrence Legislative Caucus (U.S. and Canadian provincial legislators) and National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (Midwest Board member).
Listed below are dates for library community conversations and legislative updates at city council meetings. When possible, I do attend neighborhood community meetings.
In next monthās newsletter, Iāll have information about additional events and a legislative update.
As always, youāre welcome to contact my office for suggestions and ideas for coffee hours, town halls, tributes, and more.
Warm regards,
