LANSING, Mich., Jan. 16, 2026 — The Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference (CREC) was held today, kicking off the annual budget process for fiscal year 2026. Presentations focused on the U.S. and Michigan economies and state government revenues and the forecasts from the conference will be used as a starting point for the Governor’s Executive Budget Recommendation. Following CREC, state Rep. Kimberly Edwards (D-Eastpointe), minority vice chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Services and member of the Appropriation Committee, issued the following statement:

“I am glad to see this year’s budget process get underway. This is an important opportunity to come together, share insights and set clear priorities as we begin the work ahead. The Republican-caused delays we experienced last year can’t happen again. I am committed to doing my part to ensure the process is transparent and moves forward on time so we can deliver a budget that works for the people of Michigan.”
