Democratic lawmaker calls for investments in affordability and health care
LANSING, Mich., Feb. 11, 2026 — Today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s budget proposal was unveiled as part of the executive budget recommendation. This plan outlines her preferred funding priorities and provides the legislature with a starting point for negotiations. After attending the executive recommendation presentation as a member of the House Appropriations Committee, state Rep. Kimberly Edwards (D-Eastpointe) issued the following statement:
“As we continue gearing up for budget season in the legislature, I’m hearing from families across our state who are feeling the rising costs of everyday essentials and worrying about access to quality health care.
