DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 19, 2025 — For weeks, far-right hate groups have targeted Dearborn with escalating Islamophobia. Yesterday, those actions culminated in a march into the city, including inside a Dearborn City Council meeting, where they spread xenophobic and extremist rhetoric that left residents feeling unsafe in their own community. In response, state Rep. Alabas Farhat (D-Dearborn) issued the following statement: “Yesterday, our community observed disgusting behavior from white nationalist domestic terrorists. The same individuals who stormed the capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 — individuals who do not believe in free and fair elections or the peaceful transfer of power — came to our community to lecture us about what it means to be an American. “These white nationalist insurrectionists, who are traitors in every sense of the term, have no business lecturing anybody on what it means to be American. They have a right to exercise their First Amendment, but it ends there. In our community, we will teach our children about these vile humans and show them that this is not what it means to be an American. Their hate is their weakness. Our diversity is our strength. I look forward to hearing from our state leaders, congressional delegation and elected representatives to condemn these acts of hatred.” |
