DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 18, 2025 — State Rep. Alabas Farhat (D-Dearborn) called on the United States and the United Nations to immediately intervene, enforce international law and halt recent violations along the Lebanon–Israel border, stressing that the U.S. has a “direct responsibility” to uphold the 2024 agreement it helped broker between the two countries. “For many families in my district, this is deeply personal — they are losing loved ones and living in fear for those still in South Lebanon,” Farhat said. “Israel must respect international law and Lebanon’s sovereignty.” The U.N. has confirmed that portions of a concrete barrier built by Israel have crossed the U.N.-demarcated Blue Line into Lebanese territory, cutting off local residents from their land. According to the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon, this incursion violates U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701. Lebanon is now preparing to file a formal complaint with the Security Council. Farhat emphasized that because the U.S. helped broker the 2024 ceasefire, it bears a direct responsibility to ensure that agreement is upheld. “The agreement negotiated by Washington has no value unless the U.S. ensures all parties uphold its terms. We need urgent action from the U.S. and the U.N. to stop violations, enforce the ceasefire and uphold international commitments.” |
