LANSING, Mich., May 8, 2024 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed its recommended fiscal 2024-25 budget today, which includes an additional $10 million — for a total of $17.5 million — for the Michigan State Police’s Public Safety Academy Assistance program. After the vote, state Rep. John Fitzgerald (D-Wyoming) issued the following statement on the budget:

“Public safety officers play a vital role in building stronger, safer communities by partnering with community leaders. By adding an additional $10 million for the Michigan State Police Public Safety Academy Assistance program, we are holding ourselves accountable to the people of Michigan and to our commitment to protect Michigan’s hometowns.
