LANSING, Mich., Feb. 26, 2026 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her final State of the State address before a joint legislative session yesterday evening, setting forth her priorities for the year ahead. With affordability concerns top of mind for many, the address was an opportunity for House Democrats to reflect on legislative successes that helped bring down costs and provide relief for Michiganders. Priority-focuses also narrowed in on the past and future legislative work on the cost of living, health care, education, jobs and safe neighborhoods.

After the address, state Rep. Morgan Foreman (D-Pittsfield Twp.) issued the following statement:

“Tonight, my guest was Pittsfield Township Supervisor Trish Reilly, and it was an honor having her for the governor’s final State of the State address. This being the last address, it was great to hear about the many successes the governor and the Legislature have accomplished over these past eight years. While there have been many challenges, we made substantial progress on education, including guaranteeing universal school meals for kids as well as targeted funding in literacy education and teacher retention. As a former teacher, I know how crucial these kinds of investments are to our kids’ success both in and out of the classroom.

“I look forward to this upcoming budget season to get more work done on providing necessary economic relief for people struggling with higher costs, and expanding access to affordable, accessible health care for every Michigander.”
