WALKER, Mich., Jan. 8, 2026 — Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued an opinion today concluding that House Republicans’ maneuver to claw back $645 million in previously-approved funding was unconstitutional. The opinion follows weeks of immediate and relentless actions from legislative Democrats fighting to restore the dollars promised to kids, moms, families, small businesses and more.

In response, state Rep. Carol Glanville (D-Walker) issued the following statement:

“When commitments are signed into law, Michiganders deserve to know with full certainty that lawmakers will follow through. I’m glad the Attorney General has halted the House Republicans’ attempt to take back funding that was promised to Michiganders. I am grateful to the community members who stood with me for weeks to call for accountability and restoration of this critical funding — today’s opinion shows that we are strongest when we stand together against government overreach. I will continue fighting against House Republican’s chaos.”
