HOLT, Mich., Jan. 23, 2026 — Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed an antitrust lawsuit today alleging that major oil companies conspired for decades to suppress competition and drive up energy costs for consumers in Michigan. In response, state Rep. Kara Hope (D-Holt) issued the following statement: “The allegations that major oil companies have spent decades suppressing competition and delaying innovation, forcing people to pay higher energy costs, are deeply troubling. Families across Michigan are struggling to afford their utility bills, and they deserve energy markets that are fair, honest and lawful. “If big corporations manipulated the market in ways that kept cleaner, more affordable options out of reach for Michiganders, then they must be held accountable. I commend Attorney General Nessel for bringing this lawsuit forward and standing up for consumers.” |
