LANSING — Last night, the Speaker of the House announced committee assignments for the 2019-20 legislative session. State Rep. Kara Hope (D-Holt) will serve on the House Committees on Commerce and Tourism, Elections and Ethics, and Local Government and Municipal Finance.

“I am grateful that Speaker Chatfield afforded me the opportunity to serve on these crucial committees,” Hope said. “Michigan still ranks last in government ethics and transparency, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to change such an embarrassing statistic. This new session brings with it a new chance for us to do right by the people of Michigan and implement policies that will truly make a difference in their daily lives. I’m excited to bring my experience and ideas to the table to make sure those are the policies we’re putting forward.”

Hope is serving her first term representing Michigan’s 67th House District, which includes Mason, Stockbridge, Leslie, Webberville, Williamston, Dansville, Holt, Onondaga and South Lansing. Following law school, Hope began work as a pre-hearing attorney in the Michigan Court of Appeals. She then worked as a defense attorney before going on to teach as an adjunct professor at Cooley Law School, and eventually started her solo practice in 2015, specializing in family law. Prior to her election to the state House Hope served as an Ingham County Commissioner for six years.
