LANSING, Mich., June 28, 2023 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed a bill earlier this week to rename a portion of I-96 as the Barry Lyn Hause Memorial Highway. In 2020, a driver struck Barry Lyn Hause, critically injuring him while he worked as an operating engineer cutting concrete on one of Michigan’s major state highways. State Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township), sponsor of the bill, issued the following statement on the bill’s passage:
“Construction workers perform a valuable service for us all. The least we can do is to slow down and drive safely when they’re repairing our roads. I’m pleased to see this bill honoring Barry Lyn Hause pass the House and look forward to it receiving a vote in the Senate.”
