This Juneteenth is especially important to mark as most things that cultivate, celebrate and support equality are being done away with. Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It marks the true end of slavery in the United States and stands as a powerful reminder of the ongoing journey toward justice, equality and freedom for all.

This month we will proudly honor the resilience, culture and contributions of Black communities across the state. As we gather in unity and reflection, we celebrate freedom, amplify voices and continue the journey toward justice and equality for all.
