LANSING, Mich., May 18, 2022 — Yesterday, the Michigan House of Representatives read in House Resolution 298, sponsored by State Rep. Padma Kuppa (D-Troy), that urges Congress to pass bipartisan legislation to recognize the critical role of direct support professionals.

“Even though National Nurses Week has come and gone this year, we must continue to recognize the crucial work of nurses and other direct support professionals and care workers in Michigan and beyond,” Kuppa said. “The services that these hard-working individuals provide are essential to the overall health and wellbeing of our seniors, those with disabilities, and all Michigan families.”

This resolution calls on Congress to pass S.1437 – Recognizing the Role of Direct Support Professionals Act, which has gained bipartisan co-sponsorship. Kuppa is co-chair of the Michigan Legislative Care Caucus, a coalition of legislators and advocates working to support those who provide and receive long-term care.
