LANSING, Mich., Oct. 16, 2025 — Following the signing of Michigan’s FY 2025-26 education budget by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, state Rep. Mike McFall (D–Hazel Park) celebrated the bill’s passage, noting the record investments it makes in public education across the state and in House District 14.

“This budget represents Michigan’s strongest commitment yet to our students, teachers, and families,” McFall said. “Every child deserves a safe classroom, a full meal and the opportunity to thrive — and this budget makes that possible.”

The education budget provides a record $10,050 per-pupil foundation allowance, continuing Michigan’s effort to close funding gaps between districts. It also includes funding for:

  • Universal school meals for all students, ensuring every child starts the day ready to learn.
  • $300 million for literacy and tutoring supports to help students recover from learning loss.
  • $321 million in total funding to support student mental health and school safety needs.
  • $203 million in educator retention and recruitment bonuses, helping attract and keep great teachers.
  • Funding for free pre-K for every 4-year-old by 2027, continuing the expansion of Michigan’s Pre-K for All initiative.
  • Free community college for all high-school graduates, beginning with the class of 2025.

In House District 14, schools will see an estimated $16.2 million increase in state funding under the new budget. That includes:

  • Center Line Public Schools — $1,211,608
  • Van Dyke Public Schools — $1,931,914
  • Fitzgerald Public Schools — $1,306,861
  • Lamphere Public Schools — $1,455,379
  • Madison Public Schools — $896,771
  • Hazel Park City School District — $1,708,345
  • Warren Consolidated Schools — $7,674,773

“These dollars will help our local districts retain teachers, provide free meals, expand transportation, and make sure every student — no matter their ZIP code — has access to the resources they need,” McFall concluded. “Investing in education means investing in Michigan’s future.”
