HAZEL PARK, Mich., Dec. 15, 2025 — In a move led by House Republicans, the House Appropriations Committee removed nearly $645 million in previously negotiated program spending last week with no discussion or bipartisan input. The cut funding includes already agreed-upon resources to uplift new moms and their babies at the most vulnerable stage of life, funds to provide services to kids with cancer, resources to improve school infrastructure, food pantry expansions, affordable housing projects, and much more. After the funding cuts, state Rep. Mike McFall (D-Hazel Park) issued the following statement:

“When funding gets pulled, neighborhoods feel it immediately — especially given they were told these dollars were secure and had already begun planning around them. We cannot sit quietly while vital programs are destabilized and people are left feeling betrayed. I’m committed to building Michiganders up and doing my part to make sure our hometowns stay protected and supported.”
