HAZEL PARK, Mich., May 17, 2024 — State Rep. Mike McFall (D-Hazel Park) will deliver an automated external defibrillator (AED) to the Hazel Park Schools at the Board of Education Meeting on Monday, May 20, at 5:30 p.m. at the Hazel Park Schools Administration Building (1620 E. Elza Ave.) in honor of a new law that ensures schools have these lifesaving devices on-hand. Newly signed Public Acts 36 and 37 mandate that an AED be accessible within one to three minutes during a cardiac emergency. In celebration of the law’s passage, the National Football League (NFL) donated 50 AEDs for Michigan legislators to distribute to schools in their hometowns. Recognizing the risk of sudden cardiac arrest among athletes, spectators and staff during sporting events, Michigan Democrats took action to bring safety home.

“We can’t prevent medical emergencies, but we can prepare for them. Ensuring AEDs are accessible at sporting events and making sure coaches know how to use them are some of the ways we can stay ready. I’m particularly excited to deliver this AED to Hazel Park Schools, which has decades of academic and athletic excellence to be proud of,” McFall said.
