LANSING, Mich., March 12, 2026 — A lockdown was put in place in West Bloomfield and surrounding communities after a truck rammed into Temple Israel and shots were fired just before 1 p.m. today. Law enforcement sent a message to staff indicating the shooter had been killed, but the lockdown would remain in place while the scene is secured.
In response, state Rep. Donavan McKinney (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:
“I’ve been closely monitoring the situation at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield. I’m relieved that the threat has been contained and that congregants, staff and the children at the preschool are safe.
“My thoughts remain with the community and with the first responders and security personnel who acted quickly and courageously in the face of danger. No one should ever have to fear violence while practicing their faith or gathering in worship. I’m grateful for the swift response from law enforcement and security teams that helped bring this situation to an end and protect lives.”
