McKinney Supports Attorney General Nessel’s Lawsuit Against Fossil Fuel Cartel
Democratic lawmaker celebrates move to address energy affordability crisis
DETROIT, Feb. 2, 2026 — Attorney General Dana Nessel recently filed an antitrust lawsuit alleging that major oil companies have driven up energy costs for Michiganders by conspiring for decades to suppress competition. In response, state Rep. Donavan McKinney (D-Detroit), issued the following statement:
“At a time when Michiganders and families across our region are struggling to keep the lights on and keep up with soaring home heating costs, we must continue relentlessly pursuing avenues to make life more affordable. I applaud Attorney General Nessel for standing up to big oil monopolies that are driving up prices for Michigan consumers. I stand with her and will continue to work on policies that protect consumers and bring down energy costs.”
