MT. CLEMENS, Mich., Nov. 18, 2025 — Last week, it was announced that Michigan will receive $60 million as part of the deal that ended the federal government shutdown. Of those dollars, $20 million will be invested in infrastructure improvements at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County. State Rep. Denise Mentzer (D-Mt. Clemens) recently helped secure $26 million for new aircraft missions for Selfridge during the state budget process. Those funds, coupled with the $20 million federal investment, will be used to upgrade key infrastructure, including a runway, in anticipation of F-15 EX fighter jets coming to Selfridge. The base plays a large role in the local economy and contributes $850 million annually to Michigan’s economy, supporting roughly 30,000 jobs statewide.

After the announcement of the new funds, Mentzer released the following statement:

“Supporting Selfridge has been one of my top priorities because I know how important it is to our local economy and community. At this point, it feels like Selfridge is becoming a household name, not just in Michigan, but nationally as well, and it certainly remains a household name for my neighbors in Macomb County.

“During this year’s state budget process, I fought hard for and won $26 million for Selfridge, and this additional $20 million will go a long way in improving the necessary infrastructure for the incoming F-15 EX jets. This money isn’t just a short-term grant — it is an investment in long-term local institutions that will support the community for years to come.”
