Press Release | Michigan House Democrats

LANSING, Mich., March 31, 2026 — After holding dozens of town halls, meeting with thousands of Michiganders in communities across the state and inviting direct input from constituents in every district, Michigan House Democrats are unveiling their Vision for a Brighter Michigan, a people-driven plan for building a state that works for everyone. The Vision will serve as the roadmap for House Democrats to tackle the challenges facing households and communities across Michigan.

“Our Vision is rooted in the simple truth that we may have different viewpoints, come from different ZIP codes, or define success in different ways, but at the end of the day, we all share the same values,” said House Democratic Leader Ranjeev Puri (D-Canton). “We want to work hard and earn a living that actually pays the bills and lets us enjoy our lives. We want access to quality healthcare that doesn’t break the bank and schools that set our kids up for success. We want safe, thriving communities and a real sense of connection. Over the past two years, we’ve been in communities across Michigan listening and learning what matters most. This Vision is built from those conversations, and we’re ready to get to work and deliver.”

The Vision builds on legislation and budget investments that House Democrats have previously championed to develop a stronger future for Michigan. At the top of the list is Rx Kids, a program that gives new mothers $1,500 during pregnancy and $500 a month during the baby’s first year. Implementing universal school meals has saved parents hundreds of dollars per kid and making the initiative permanent is a top priority. Capping the cost of prescription meds is also a longtime Democratic objective emblematic of the values of the House Democrats’ Vision

The Vision for a Brighter Michigan basic principles include:

  • Making Life More Affordable – removing the obstacles that make it harder for people to get ahead, and instead allow working Michiganders to keep more of their hard-earned dollars.
  • Healthcare Without Barriers – ensuring every person can afford the quality primary, preventative and specialized care they need.
  • Quality Education and Workforce Development – ensuring every student gets a world-class education and has a clear path to success.
  • Building Better Communities and Local Economies – improving the quality of life for every neighborhood in every town by investing in responsible growth.

“It’s one thing to look around and state the obvious: we have an affordability crisis in Michigan. It’s another thing to go into communities and neighborhoods and speak directly with the real people impacted by the crisis to understand how we can help,” said state Rep. Denise Mentzer (D-Mt. Clemens). “Good government isn’t about telling people what to do; it’s about removing obstacles to success, and solving problems too big for one community to tackle alone. House Democrats have a vision for a brighter Michigan, and we intend to deliver on it.”
