Miller Condemns Political Violence, Calls for Unity

VAN BUREN TWP., Mich., Sept. 11, 2025 — Yesterday, political commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered while hosting an event on a college campus in Utah. In response to the tragic attack, state Rep. Reggie Miller (D-Van Buren Twp.) released the following statement:

“I’m heartbroken at the news of another politically motivated attack in this country. Less than three months after we saw the attack on legislators in Minnesota, there has been another senseless politically motivated killing. No matter differences, resorting to violence against people who we disagree with is atrocious and never acceptable.

“In America, we settle our political differences through discussion, debate and at the ballot box, not with violence. I’m calling on community leaders and elected officials at every level from both political parties to join together to end this violence, reject hateful rhetoric and commit ourselves to respect and civility for the good of our communities and our nation.

“Political violence has absolutely no place in our country, no matter what our differences are. We must recognize that the path we are headed down as a country is not sustainable. We must do better.”
