State Passes FY25-26 Budget

Miller applauds compromise budget, frustrated with the process

LANSING, Mich., Oct. 3, 2025 – After the Michigan Legislature approved a balanced bipartisan budget that protects health care, universal school meals, cuts taxes and creates a long-term road funding plan for our local roads, state Rep Reggie Miller (D-Van Buren Twp.) provided the following statement:

“Legislators on both sides of the aisle came together to pass a budget for FY25-26. Although I am disappointed that budget negotiations had to drag out this long and created anxiety for our residents, schools and communities, I am grateful that we avoided a government shutdown and kept essential services open for our residents.

“This budget invests in our students and schools, and contains record per-pupil funding, retains the universal school meals program, increases funding for mental health and safety grants, rural transportation and increases at-risk funding.

“Also in this budget is a long-term road funding plan for local governments and counties ensuring they will have the necessary funding to improve and manage our local roads. This is something I’ve heard a lot from our residents, and being able to deliver this plan is a win for all Michiganders.

“I was also able to secure funding for a new pumper fire truck for the Romulus Fire Department. I am committed to ensuring that our first responders have the equipment they need to keep us safe.

“This budget shows that when we roll up our sleeves and work together, we can address some of the biggest concerns facing Michigan residents today. Moving forward, my office is here to assist with any questions you may still have. I appreciate your continued feedback and collaboration to deliver results for all Michiganders.”
