Miller Urges Restoration of $645 Million in Appropriated Community Investments Yanked Back by House Appropriations Committee

VAN BUREN TWP., Mich., Dec. 12, 2025 — This week, the House Appropriations Committee voted unexpectedly to withdraw nearly $645 million in funding that had previously been approved for a range of community projects across Michigan. This decision was made abruptly, with little notice, and is widely seen as a political move. As a result, ongoing projects throughout the state will be forced to halt. These funding cuts will affect crucial services, including the removal of $18.5 million from Rx Kids, a program that supports mothers and babies, and the elimination of $56,600 from an initiative that helps children with cancer. In addition, many other programs that provide food and health care to seniors, families, and vulnerable community members now face the loss of essential resources and support.

In response to the archaic and politically-motivated cuts, state Rep. Reggie Miller (D-Van Buren Twp.) issued the following statement:

“On behalf of every child, senior and community member who would have benefitted from these ongoing projects, I am angry that such a cruel and unprecedented maneuver to take back already appropriated funding that belongs to the people was made, and with such little transparency.

“Supporting children with cancer is not waste, helping food assistance organizations get food to our most vulnerable neighbors’ doors is not waste. The real abuse is the abuse of power we saw in the government this week. I will continue to advocate for these investments to be rightfully returned to Michiganders.”
