LANSING, Mich., Dec. 12, 2025 — This week, the House Appropriations Committee removed nearly $645 million in previously negotiated spending with no discussion and no bipartisan input. The cut funding includes $56,600 to provide wigs to Michiganders undergoing cancer treatment, $18.5 million from Rx Kids that provides funds to moms and babies, $2.5 million from a pilot study for traffic cameras in school zones and much more. After House Republicans’ unprecedented funding cuts, state Rep. Jason Morgan (D-Ann Arbor) issued the following statement:

“House Republicans didn’t just vote for cuts — they voted for cruelty. They ripped help away from kids with cancer, from moms who need diapers for their babies and from children seeking mental-health care after sexual assault. And then they had the audacity to call these lifelines ‘waste, fraud and abuse.’ It’s truly heartless to tell a mother it’s a waste to feed her child or implying a kid with cancer is a fraud. This isn’t governing, and Michigan families deserve leaders who lift people up instead of tearing them down.”
