State Rep. Price (Left) speaking with a constituent at her April 20 Election Town Hall.
Dear Neighbor,
As we move through the month of May, the Legislature is entering a busy and important phase of our work at the Capitol. Much of our focus right now is on ongoing budget negotiations, where lawmakers are continuing discussions to shape a state budget that reflects our shared priorities and meets the needs of communities across Michigan. At the same time, legislative efforts continue as bills move through committees and the House floor, reflecting the ongoing work and debate that are part of the legislative process. I remain engaged with my colleagues on these issues and committed to continuing to represent the interests of our community as the session moves forward.
I appreciate the opportunity to stay connected and share updates about the work happening both in our community and in Lansing. Thank you for continuing to stay engaged and involved — it means a lot and I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve you.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to my office by phone at (517) 373-0823 or email at [email protected] for questions about this or any other state-level issue. You can follow me on Facebook to get regular legislative updates, too.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement. Let’s keep moving Michigan forward together!
In Service,

Community Conversation
Last month, my office hosted a community conversation at the Huntington Woods Public Library. I was joined by special guests Director of Elections for Oakland County Joe Rozell, Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown and Huntington Woods City Clerk Heidi Barckholtz. Together we discussed efforts to keep the 2026 midterm elections safe, secure and accessible.
This month, my office will host a Gun Safety Town Hall at the Royal Oak City Commission Chamber on Thursday, May 21, at 5:30 p.m. Together we will discuss some upcoming gun trafficking legislation that I will be introducing alongside my colleagues. I hope to see you there!
Legislative & District Updates
Knocking On Your Doors
During the winter months our office shifted our focus to our monthly community events and virtual town halls. Now that the weather has begun to warm, we are resuming our doorknocking! Please be on the lookout for my office staff — they will be knocking doors, providing information and listening to your concerns over the coming months!
If you don’t see us while we are knocking doors, you can reach us at our community events, at our office by phone at (517) 373-0823, or by email at [email protected].
The MI House Democrats Vision Project
Exciting news about the Vision Project! We have finally released our agenda based on your feedback. You can look at the website here. In short, when House Democrats retake the majority, we plan to:
- Make Michigan more affordable
- Expand access to healthcare
- Invest in education & workforce development
- Build better communities & local economies
- And more!
Legislation
In mid-February the governor’s team gave their executive recommendation for the Fiscal Year 2027 budget. We have begun negotiating for a budget that aims to serve all Michiganders. Your input is invaluable during this period.
Here are a few other important pieces of legislation I’ve been championing and supporting this term to create real change for our communities:
- Banning immigration enforcement from operating in protected places like churches and religious ceremonies, schools, hospitals, and courthouses (HB 4859; Led by Xiong)
- Prohibiting any federal or state law enforcement officer from refusing to identify themselves or wearing a mask for any reason other than to prevent the spread of disease (HB 4760; Led by Coffia, Price as co-sponsor)
- Expanding workers compensation (HB 5177–5191; Price as co-sponsor)
- Advancing pay equity and preventing discriminatory wage practices (HBs 4289–4297; Price co-sponsor)
- Protecting healthcare workers from assault (HBs 4532–4535; Led by Price, Hope, Green, Bierlein)
I’m also proud to join my colleagues from the Firearm Safety & Gun Violence Prevention caucus in sponsoring a new package of bills to curb gun violence and encourage responsible gun ownership:
- HBs 5065 & 5066, SBs 853 & 854
- Create a state-level gun dealer license in the state of Michigan.
- Hold gun dealers liable if they sell a firearm to someone who is prohibited from possessing one.
- Require gun dealers carry $1 million of liability insurance.
- HBs 5758–5760, SBs 842 & 843
- End gun industry immunity by allowing victims of gun violence to fire civil lawsuits against firearm manufactures should a crime be committed with their product. I introduced HB 5759.
- HB 5751, SB 224
- Ban bump stocks and multiburst triggers that allow semi-automatic firearms to rapidly fire and make them similar to machine guns.
- HB 5750, SB 851
- Prohibit magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition to limit lethality by decreasing a shooter’s ability to fire many rounds with pausing to reload.
- HB 5752
- Require that everyone who purchases a firearm has successfully completed a firearm safety course that includes live firearm training. This class is consistent with what is required to have a CPL.
- HB 5743, SB 848
- Require a three-day waiting period between the completion of a sale of a firearm and when the purchaser can actually acquire the firearm. The intention is to prevent impulsive acts of gun violence, including firearm homicides and suicides.
- HBs 5753 & 5754
- Must be age 21 or older to purchase a firearm.
- HBs 5741 & 5742, SBs 849 & 850
- Close a loophole that allows CPL holders to open carry in gun-free zones.
- Add libraries, the Capitol grounds and state owned or leased buildings (except shooting ranges) to the list of gun-free zones.
- HB 5749
- Give cities, counties and townships the option to ban firearms from their government buildings.
- HBs 4478 & 4479, SBs 331 & 332
- Ban ghost guns.
Please note this is not an exhaustive list of all the issues my office is working on. Stay tuned for updates as we continue working on critical legislation.
State Updates & Resources
Teachers Recognized by Students, Michigan Department of Education
May is Teacher Appreciation month! Thank you so much to all of Michigan’s teachers who help our students succeed. As a former teacher, I know how hard the job can be. I have so much respect for our educators, I hope that this month, and every month, they know how much we value them.
Michigan residents have access to a robust network of air monitoring resources
This week is air quality awareness week. As spring turns into summer, wildfires may yet again put smoke and ash in our air. Using these tools you can keep yourself and your loved ones healthy and safe!
MDHHS launches statewide map to expand access to free gun locks and promote safe firearm storage
I am a strong advocate for safe storage for firearms. In the past I’ve passed legislation to expand access to gun locks and safes. It’s so encouraging to see that same level of commitment from our state departments!
