LANSING — State Rep. Brian K. Elder (D-Bay City) joined his House colleagues today to open the new legislative session at the ceremonial swearing-in held in the House Chamber at the state Capitol. Rep. Elder was sworn in by state Supreme Court Justice Bridget Mary McCormack, and was joined by his wife Susan Elder and their three children, Brian, Daniel and Johanna.
“The most important lesson I ever learned was one taught to me by my pop, and one I’m sure my sons are tired of hearing me repeat,” said Rep. Elder. “And that’s do your job, do your job, do your job. Focusing on the work itself is always better than focusing on titles, status or credit. I’ve been elected by the people of Bay County to serve them, and to speak on behalf of them in Lansing. That means understanding their needs and concerns, and working to find real solutions that address those problems. I’m ready to do that, and looking forward to working with both sides of the aisle to get things done.”

Elder will serve as an assistant floor leader for the 2017-18 legislative term, as well as representing House District 96, which includes the cities of Bay City, Essexville and Bangor, as well as Frankenlust, Hampton, Kawkawlin, Merritt, Monitor and Portsmouth townships in Bay County.
