Rep. Noah Arbit (D-West Bloomfield) celebrates the the rewarding of a $1,000,000 in brownfield grant funds to Orchard Lake for the Orchard Shoppes Project

ORCHARD LAKE, Mich. — The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) announced the City of Orchard Lake will receive a grant totaling $1,000,000 from the Brownfield Redevelopment Grant for Orchard Shoppes Project. The grant will enable the city to use field verification to identify approximately 150 service lines at properties where lead is suspected, but not confirmed, and prepare for replacement. State Representative Noah Arbit (D-West Bloomfield) issued the following statement:

“I am thrilled that EGLE has selected the City of Orchard Lake Village to receive these critical funds to prepare the Orchard Shoppes Project,” said Rep. Arbit. I will continue to vote for funding that helps communities like Orchard Lake clean up environmentally unsafe contamination. I am proud to see these investments pay off here in Orchard Lake, and I will continue to advocate to bring dollars home to support the people of West Bloomfield, Commerce, and the Lakes.”

The Brownfield Redevelopment Act was established under PA 381 of 1996. Since its enactment the Legislature has appropriated millions of dollars towards Brownfield Redevelopment Programs across the state, including last year where the Legislature appropriated $25 million to assist communities in local water infrastructure, including restoration of groundwater and soil infrastructure.
