“Child care is such an important issue for families across Michigan  and the entire country,” said Young, chair of the House Committee on Families, Children, and Seniors. “From high tuition costs in urban areas to lack of access in rural communities, it’s important we learn from other states and take a holistic approach and build on proven successful strategies.”

Attendees at the summit heard from governors and experts in the field about what’s working in child care; listened to strategies for, and legislative wins on, investing in child care from state legislators; and took part in breakout discussions on what legislative action can be taken in the future.

“It was such a great opportunity to learn from fellow legislators from across the country on how we can serve kids and families here in Michigan,” Young said. “I look forward to bringing back what I’ve learned and putting my committee to work on improving our state’s child care system.”
