As your representative, I am most effective at my job when acting on your input. As you know, I am the chair of the Regulatory Reform Committee. I also serve on the following committees: Judiciary; Criminal Justice; Military, Veterans and Homeland Security; and the Appropriation Subcommittee on Labor, Economic Development, and Lifelong Learning. Back to School
Universal breakfast and lunch for students
Universal school meals will continue in the 2024-2025 school year for all students in Michigan public schools. This allows students participating in the Great Start Readiness Program, pre-K program for 4 year olds and K-12 grades to have the option of free breakfast and lunch during the school day. The FY 25 budget included an increase of $40 million, bringing the total to $200 million.

PreK for all
The FY 2025 budget gives access to free PreK for all eligible Michigan 4 year olds, prioritizing those who need it most. This saves families up to $10,000 per year. If you have a child who will be 4 years old by Dec. 1, there may be seats available this fall.

Michigan Student Aid Programs
Beginning Fall 2024, students from the Class of 2023 and beyond may be eligible for The Community College Guarantee. The Community College Guarantee allows eligible high school seniors to earn a skilled trades certificate or associate’s degree tuition-free.
The Michigan Achievement Scholarship provides eligible students up to $27,500 toward the cost of attendance for a bachelor’s degree.

The Michigan Reconnect program provides a pathway to adult learners to attend in-district community college tuition-free.
Until Nov. 14, 2024 to be eligible, you must:
- Be at least 21 years old when you apply.
- Have lived in Michigan for a year or more.
- Have a high school diploma, high school equivalency (GED), or certificate of completion. If you do not have a high school diploma or equivalent, visit Michigan.gov/LearnMoreEarnMore to get started.
- Have not yet completed a college degree (associate or bachelor’s).

On Sept. 10, there will be a health clinic offering a range of FREE health screenings, wellness information and individual consultations with a medical professional at no cost, with no insurance or appointment required. Free health services include:
