LANSING, Mich., Feb. 11, 2026 — Today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer presented her executive budget recommendations for the upcoming fiscal year, outlining a plan that aims to preserve Michigan’s values and priorities amid a challenging budget year. As the budget process begins, House Democrats are focused on protecting Medicaid, investing in education and delivering relief to Michigan families.
In response, state Rep. Julie Rogers (D-Kalamazoo), member of the House Appropriations Committee and minority vice chair of the Medicaid and Behavioral Health Appropriations Subcommittee, issued the following statement:
“As we begin work on this year’s budget, we’re facing real challenges driven by massive federal health care cuts under the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act, including deep reductions to Medicaid and the loss of Affordable Care Act subsidies. This year, protecting access to care for our most vulnerable residents must remain a priority, and that means shoring up Medicaid so families can continue to get the care they rely on.
“At the same time, we have to stay focused on the long-term investments that help Michigan succeed, including strong literacy funding to ensure students are prepared for the world ahead. This budget will require collaboration and discipline, and we owe it to schools, local governments and communities across the state to pass a responsible budget by the June 30 deadline.”
