LANSING, Mich., March 30, 2026 — Recently, the State Land Bank Authority (SLBA) awarded the Muskegon County Land Bank an additional $700,000 from their Blight Elimination Program. The Legislature originally appropriated $75 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds to SLBA for blight elimination grants in the FY25-26 budget.
“Blight elimination and the work the state and local land banks do have a tremendous impact on our communities,” said state Rep. Will Snyder (D-Muskegon). “I have worked hard over the years fighting for our communities in order to make sure we can fully utilize this funding.”
This funding takes the total amount of money invested in the Muskegon area in the FY25-26 state budget to more than $8.2 million.
“Muskegon County’s success with housing rehabilitation and other valuable projects has given SLBA confidence they can complete additional work that meets the goals of our program in the coming months,” said Joe Rivet, Director of the SLBA.
“I applaud the Muskegon County Land Bank for their efforts and diligence to make sure that projects stay on schedule and under budget, which allows for re-allocation of unspent dollars to great new projects,” Snyder added.
Of the additional $700,000 the SLBA is granting the Muskegon County Land Bank, $600,000 will be directed to support housing rehabilitation, creating three additional units, and $100,000 will enhance the Froebel School stabilization, ultimately leading to a rehabilitation of that building.
