Democratic lawmaker secures rural bussing, career and technical education and affordable housing funding for Muskegon
LANSING, Mich., Oct. 6, 2025 — Last week, the Michigan Legislature passed the final FY 2025-26 General and School Aid budgets.
State Rep. Will Snyder (D-Muskegon) said, “While it certainly has its faults, it also has its achievements. In a polarized world and with divided state government that is how it should be – each side gives and takes and results in something that works for everyone. I think that is evident in the wide bipartisan support it received on final passage.”
The state budget reflects efforts to minimize the over a billion dollars of lost federal spending on the balance sheet due to the Trump Administration. The passed budget has its victories – Medicaid is protected, record investment in per pupil school funding of $10,050, continuation of no cost school meals, and the creation of a public safety revenue sharing fund.
There is relief for working families and seniors with the elimination of taxes on tips, overtime, and social security.
The budget also ‘fixes the damn roads’ by creating a sustainable long-term funding solution that also provides an influx of funding directly to our local roads.
“Its victories are many, but unfortunately some cuts were made, and some will particularly sting. Overall, it’s a sign that bipartisan government can prevail, and we can still do big things,” said state Rep. Will Snyder.
