Representative highlights support for helping more make it in Michigan

LANSING, Mich., Jan. 25, 2024 — Before a joint legislative session yesterday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered this year’s State of the State address. In her speech, the governor discussed her agenda for the new year, which includes lowering costs for Michiganders, expanding educational opportunities and strengthening the state’s economy. State Rep. Alabas Farhat (D-Dearborn) issued the following statement on Whitmer’s address:

“Yesterday’s state of the state address affirms that we will continue to fight for families and to rebuild Michigan’s infrastructure. We will continue to invest in our people, our cities and our future. I look forward to continuing the good work of the Democratic majority and fighting for our community at the capitol.”

Since gaining control of the House, Senate and governor’s office last year, Michigan Democrats have laid a strong foundation for our state by putting people first. The work has included putting more in people’s pockets by repealing the retirement tax, increasing the working families tax credit (EITC), funding free breakfast and lunch for public school kids, and improving public safety.
