LANSING — Today, House and Senate Democrats introduced the Teachers for Michigan bill package designed to prepare, attract and retain top teaching talent for Michigan. In response, state Rep. Sara Cambensy (D-Marquette) issued the following response:
“Michigan needs great teachers because every child deserves the best possible education so they can succeed in whatever path they choose in life. Teachers do one of the most important jobs a person can do and, unfortunately, too many of them are leaving the profession while young people are choosing to pursue other careers. This Teachers for Michigan package, including my bill which addresses healthcare and step increases for teachers in future contracts, will encourage our excellent veteran teachers to stay in the classroom while encouraging more young people to join the teaching profession.”
